It started with 70 conversations
Before we wrote a single line of code, we spent three months talking to field sales teams. Over 70 customer interviews with reps, managers, and VP Sales across pharma, construction, insurance, distribution, and healthcare.
Every conversation revealed the same pattern: reps are having great conversations in the field, but the data from those conversations is trapped in human memory. By the time they sit down to update CRM, the details are fuzzy, the nuance is gone, and the motivation to type is low.
The gap nobody was building for
Tools like Gong and Chorus solved conversation intelligence for desk-based teams years ago. Every Zoom call is recorded, transcribed, analyzed, and synced. It's a solved problem.
But most B2B selling still happens face-to-face. Pharmaceutical reps visiting HCPs. Construction sales walking job sites. Insurance agents meeting clients at kitchen tables. Distribution reps doing 10+ route stops per day.
These teams have no equivalent tool. They're operating with paper notes, voice memos, and end-of-day CRM sessions — the same workflow from 2005.
We didn't find a field sales team that was happy with their CRM data. Not one, out of seventy.
Why hardware + software, together
We considered building a phone app. It would have been faster to ship. But our interviews revealed a fundamental problem: phone-based recording is socially awkward and operationally fragile.
Reps told us they'd tried recording apps. They'd forget to hit record. They'd accidentally stop it. Prospects would see the phone on the table and clam up. The phone would ring mid-conversation. In noisy environments — factory floors, construction sites — phone microphones couldn't isolate speakers from background noise.
We realized the capture device needed to be:
- Wearable — always on, never forgotten
- Visible — a clear recording indicator for consent
- Purpose-built — dual beam-forming mics for noisy environments
- Frictionless — one tap to start, automatic upload
That's the Buddi Pin: a 15-gram wearable AI device with 12-hour battery life, IP54 dust and splash resistance, and BLE 5.3 connectivity. Built for the real-world environments where field sales happens.
What Buddi does
The device captures the conversation. The AI does the rest:
Transcription with speaker separation. The conversation is transcribed with each speaker identified, even in multi-party meetings with up to 4 speakers.
Entity extraction. AI identifies contacts (names, titles, companies), pain points, action items, deal signals, objections, and stakeholders from the conversation context.
CRM sync. Extracted data is mapped to your CRM fields and pushed automatically. New contacts are created, activities are logged, tasks are assigned — all within 2 minutes of the conversation ending.
Coaching intelligence. Managers get a dashboard showing every conversation across the team, with AI-highlighted key moments, talk ratios, and coaching opportunities.
What's next
We're currently running a pilot program with field sales teams across pharma, construction, and insurance. Early results are promising: teams are seeing CRM data capture rates jump from ~38% to 94%, with reps saving over 2 hours per day on administrative work.
